Prof. Mariusz Popławski, Rector of the University of Białystok, took part in the ceremony of awarding Professor Francis Fukuyama the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, which took place on Friday, May 16th.
Professor Fukuyama is an outstanding thinker whose scientific achievements inspire public debate all over the world.
- In his research, Professor Francis Fukuyama combines political science, philosophy and history. His thoughts on, among others, the future of democracy are of great importance for understanding changes in the modern world. At the end of the last century, he put forward, as it turned out, a controversial thesis about the so-called end of history. During today's lecture, he indicated, among other things, that the world we are currently entering will no longer be based on liberal principles, which for decades were the foundation of the international order shaped after 1945. He also pointed out that those of us who believe in the future of liberal democracy should cooperate beyond national divisions - says prof. Mariusz Popławski.
