Workshops, lectures, performances, concerts, interactive games, presentations, competitions, experiments - these are just some of the attractions that the University of Białystok has prepared for the XXI Podlaskie Festival of Science and Art, which will take place on May 9-18. It will be inspiring, scientific and creative! The university invites you to its premises especially on May 15 but there will also be a lot going on in other festival days. Admission to all events is free and most require prior registration.
As part of this year's edition of the Podlasie Festival of Science and Art, the University of Białystok has prepared over 130 events. All university units have been involved in their organization. The largest university in Podlasie invites science enthusiasts of all ages to its hospitable walls because everyone will find something for themselves.
- Our festival offer includes workshops, lectures, shows, experiments, laboratory classes, performances, exhibitions, concerts, scientific journeys, games and Planetarium screenings. Almost every festival day at the University of Bialystok is filled with attractions but we especially invite you on May 15 - it is the University Day within the Podlaskie Festival Science and Art. We will open our laboratories, lecture halls and workshop rooms. The topics of the meetings will be very diverse: from modern technologies, through social phenomena, to humanities and natural sciences - says dr hab. Aneta Petelska, prof. of the University of Białystok - Coordinator of the Festival at the University of Białystok.
UwB invites you, for example, to a lecture on Podlasie whisperers and to workshops on antibiotics in action – or how to defeat invisible enemies. UwB will show the magical side of chemistry and the artistic dimension of artificial intelligence and will discover the world of encryption and the secrets of fingerprints. UwB will talk about great discoveries that changed medicine (from penicillin to the microscope), about "women in culture, art and science so about courage and determination in life" and also about how dinosaurs took over the world 66 million years after their extinction.
XXI Podlaskie Festival of Science and Art at UwB also includes: a journey to the fascinating world of plants and animals, observing the Sun at the Astronomical Observatory, the game "Mafia on Warsaw Street – or who rules the world of finance?", a picnic of Young Explorer Clubs, physics in computer games or workshops on volunteering, empathy and mentoring – so "Together we can do more".
This year, UwB strongly emphasizes culture and invites you to the "Culture Day on the UwB campus" on May 14. It starts at 5 p.m. A wealth of artistic impressions will be provided by: an opening of the artistic works of UwB employees and students: "Truth Hides Beneath the Surface" and "Picasso, Brancusi, Giacometti Exhibition"; a performance by the Theatre Without a Name - entitled "Homo Octopus"; a concert by the JustSound art school; workshops on creating literary collages; a VR film: an extraordinary walk through the gardens of the Branicki Palace.
On May 12, it is worth going to the performance of the play "Ferrando AI" directed by prof. UwB Paweł Chomczyk and with the special participation of, among others, the Vice-Rector for Education, dr hab. Krzysztof Korotkich, prof. UwB. A virtual director, cold technology in the digital "body" of code and algorithm, is to lead the theater group through the next artistic challenges. What price will they pay for cooperation with AI? Will the theater survive in the confrontation with artificial intelligence?
On Sunday, May 18, the largest university in Podlasie will participate in the Family Science Picnic at the Chorten Arena Stadium in Białystok. It will provide entire families with a lot of scientific attractions, including: a coded world of fantasy and robots, sculpting in books, discovering the chemical secrets of science, an Asian challenge, a historical and economic gaming corner and English sprint.
