The largest university in Podlasie has been represented in this ranking from the beginning. Five researchers from the University of Białystok are among the best scientists in the world in terms of citation of their scientific works. The top 2 % ranking which was published by Elsevier includes over 200 thousand scientists from all over the world representing various disciplines.
The list covering scientific achievements of the entire period of professional work includes employees of the largest university in Podlasie: prof. Piotr Jaranowski – astrophysicist from the Faculty of Physics of the University of Białystok, prof. Andrzej Bajguz – biochemist from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Białystok, as well as three researchers from the faculty of Chemistry: prof. Beata Godlewska-Żyłkowska dealing with analytical chemistry, prof. Joanna Karpińska - head of the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory and prof. Krzysztof Winkler specializing in materials chemistry.
It is worth adding that prof. Bajguz and prof. Jaranowski were ranked highest among all Białystok scientists included in the ranking.
In turn, the list including only citations from 2023 includes: prof. Andrzej Bajguz, prof. Piotr Jaranowski and prof. Joanna Karpińska.
The participation of our scientists among the best-cited researchers in the world not only increases the prestige and recognition of individual researchers but also influences the development of our University, the economy and builds a stronger position of University of Białystok both in the country and in the global scientific landscape - says prof. The Top 2% ranking was developed by analysts from Stanford University in cooperation with Elsevier. It assesses the scientific achievements of researchers according to the bibliometric index, taking into account, among others, criteria such as the Hirsch index, number of citations or place on the list of authors.
