These analyzers estimate nondestructively fat reserves of animals using total body electrical conductivity (TOBEC) body-composition analysis. The TOBEC method relies on the major difference in conductivity between lipids and other body constituents to estimate total lean body mass. The difference between total body mass, as determined by weighing, and lean body mass, estimated from TOBEC, provides an estimate of total body fat.
