From September 1, 2024, the Doctoral School of the University of Bialystok has been officially operating. It was created as a result of the merger of the Doctoral School of Humanities, the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences which have been operating at the university since 2019.
The new established unit offers young scientists the opportunity to undertake research as part of 3 fields and 12 scientific disciplines, based on the academic staff of the University of Bialystok. From October 2024, after the end of the current recruitment, the number of doctoral students will exceed 200 people.
As emphasized by the Director of the School, dr. hab. Ewa Gruszewska, prof. UwB, the education and scientific development of doctoral students is one of the priority tasks facing universities. The task of the Doctoral School of the University of Bialystok is to create optimal conditions for the scientific development of young researchers. Due to the number of doctoral students admitted in the recruitment process for individual disciplinary paths, education is individualized and flexible, based on the student-master relationship. There is no doubt that this gives the opportunity to better support the development of doctoral students than when working in larger groups.
We will make efforts to ensure that doctoral students receive appropriate support for their scientific development, both from supervisors, research and teaching staff, as well as the School's management and administration. We are counting on cooperation in this area with all people involved in working with doctoral students, as well as with the doctoral students' self-government – says the director of the Doctoral School, prof. Ewa Gruszewska.
Her deputies were: dr hab. Anna Doliwa-Klepacka, prof. UwB (social sciences), dr hab. Danuta Drzymulska, prof. UwB (exact and natural sciences) and dr hab. Anna Sakowicz (humanities sciences).
