Two Historians from the Faculty of History of the University of Białystok: prof. Rafał Kosiński and Dawid Kowalik, M.A. will receive grants in the recently concluded NCN competitions: Opus 27 and Preludium 23. They will receive a total of over 900 thousand PLN for their research.

Over 769 thousand PLN the National Science Center, as part of the Opus competition, awarded prof. Rafał Kosiński for the project entitled "Preparation of a bilingual (Greek-English and Greek-Polish) edition of the work 'Historia Tripartita' by Theodore Lektor (editio princeps) with an introduction and historical commentary based on the Codex Marcianus manuscript.".

The scientific goal of the project - as can be read in its description - is a critical publication in Greek-Polish and Greek-English versions of the manuscript containing the Historia Tripartita by Teodor Lektor which has not been published in any modern language before and was written in the second decade of the 6th century. Additionally, the project will publish, translate and comment on the Epitome of this work, which was written at the beginning of the 7th century.

Over 154 thousand PLN of funding from the Preludium competition was received by Dawid Kowalik, M.A. (doctoral student of the Doctoral School of the University of Białystok) for the implementation of the project entitled "The impact of fiscal pressure and social polarization on the deepening wealth differences among the nobility of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16th-18th centuries."

The aim of this scientific undertaking is to examine the causes and consequences of the deepening wealth differences among the nobility of the Kingdom of Poland in the modern period (16th-18th centuries). As you can read in the project description, elements such as fiscal pressure, social polarization, political evolution and war damage that could have affected intra-state, political-economic and social relations will be taken into account. Showing the process through the prism of the above phenomena should contribute to a better understanding of the specificity of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The scientific supervisor of the project is dr hab. Piotr Guzowski, prof. UwB.
