Prof. Halina Parafianowicz and dr hab. Urszula Kotowska are among the winners of this year's Scientific Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences Branch in Olsztyn and Białystok. In turn, among the distinguished were dr hab. Piotr Kozak and dr Ewa Olchowik-Grabarek. The meeting of the Award Jury took place on December 4, 2024.
Prof. Halina Parafianowicz, retired professor from the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Białystok received the 1st Prize in the social sciences and humanities category for her analysis of the role of First Ladies in US politics and the impact of world wars on the consciousness of Americans and the British.
In the category of exact sciences, technology and earth sciences, the 2nd Prize was awarded to dr hab. Urszula Kotowska from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Białystok for her scientific achievement including a series of publications entitled "Development and testing the effectiveness of new solutions for the determination and removal of selected water and sewage pollutants."
Dr hab. Piotr Kozak from the Faculty of Philosophy and Cognitive Science at the University of Białystok received a distinction in the category of social sciences and humanities for his monograph entitled "Thinking in Images: Imagistic Cognition and Non-propositional Content" (Bloomsbury, London 2023).
In turn, in the category of biological, agricultural and medical sciences, dr Ewa Olchowik-Grabarek from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Białystok was appreciated. She received a distinction for the scientific achievement "Tannins - compounds of plant origin as new factors against the pathogenicity of Staphylococcus aureus".
