Opis Autora:

This talk examines the rapid expansion of generative AI in Higher Education and how to harness its potential without compromising pedagogical integrity. Drawing on practical examples—active learning with ChatGPT, a domain-specific tutoring bot for NLP, AI-generated quizzes integrated into Moodle, and transparent guidelines for signalling AI use—I argue that the challenge is not whether to use AI, but how to integrate it responsibly. The goal is to transform AI from a disruptive wave into a structured pedagogical ally that enhances learning, supports instructors, and promotes ethical academic practice.

Jorge Baptista is Associate Professor with Agregação (~Habilitation) at the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal and Senior Researcher at the Human Language Technology Lab of INESC-ID Lisboa (Portugal). His work spans syntax and semantics of Portuguese, computational linguistics, lexical resources, and text readability/complexity, with a strong focus on integrating linguistic theory and NLP resources and applications. He has participated in multiple national and European projects and is actively developing AI-based pedagogical resources for higher education.
