Bachelor Degree Programs

General educational aims of the studies and employment/further education possibilities: The aim of English studies is to acquire basic knowledge of the target language, literature and culture and to employ it in professional and social contexts in an ethical way. The graduates can use at least one target language at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and can use the target language for specific purposes. They also have interdisciplinary competence which enables them to apply their knowledge and ability to use language in different fields of academic and social life. They can solve professional problems, gather, process and transfer information (both in written and oral forms)  and participate in team work. Their qualifications should allow them to work in educational, administrative and cultural institutions such as publishing houses, editorial boards, mass media, tourist industry , services, etc. – mainly in places where good knowledge of the target language and culture is required. They can also work as teachers of English in primary and lower secondary schools after completing a special pedagogical programme provided by the Teachers` Educational Centre of UwB (CEN). The graduates are well-prepared to continue their studies at MA level.

Master Degree Programs

Master Degree Programs (second cycle - 2 years)

Some elective courses:

  • Chemistry materials – Materials for energy storage, Advanced instrumental methods for material analysis, Chemistry of nanomaterials, Structural Chemistry, Polymers, Current methods in the chemistry of materials, Catalytic processing, Nanostructural materials in chemical analysis, and Conducting polymers.
  • Chemical analysis – Sampling and sample preparation, Atomic spectrometry, Process analysis in chemistry, Toxicological analysis, Methods for surface analysis, Current methods in chemical analysis, Bioanalysis, Ecoanalysis, and Environmental chemistry.

Graduate profile:

Education in the field of Applied Chemistry is aimed at equipping graduates with knowledge, skills, and competencies in the field of chemistry based on the basics of exact and natural sciences (chemical sciences discipline), enabling them to take up work in any European country, as well as outside Europe. Regardless of the type of specialization, graduates obtain the same specific learning outcomes, differing only in the substantive content of specialization, elective, and diploma classes. A feature of the second-cycle Applied Chemistry studies is their universality and achieving practical skills. Many laboratory classes guarantee to acquire highly valued professional skills in the labor market.

Achieving learning outcomes in the second-cycle Applied Chemistry field will provide graduates with employment opportunities in enterprises and in public, non-governmental, and research organizations and institutions whose activities are related to the use of chemistry.  Thanks to the knowledge of professional literature, the graduate will be able to follow national and global scientific progress in the field of chemistry and be fluent in English at the B2+ level per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The graduate will be prepared to continue education at the doctoral school and postgraduate studies.

Apart from advanced language skills (level C2 according to the European Council Common European Framework of Reference for Languages with regard to one foreign language), a graduate is provided with comprehensive and extensive knowledge in the field of selected specialization: linguistics, literature studies, culture studies, or applied linguistics. He can integrate knowledge from various humanistic disciplines and apply it to untypical professional situations; he can independently solve professional problems and draft relevant opinions based on incomplete or limited information in accordance with the principles of ethics, law and economics. A graduate can professionally communicate with experts and non-experts as well as organize teamwork. He has an open attitude to other languages and cultures. Depending on the selected specialization, a graduate is prepared to work in the institutions of culture, state administration, education, in publishing houses, journal editor’s offices, mass media, culture and research institutions as well as in the services sector requiring advanced knowledge of languages and cultures. What is more, a graduate can work as a foreign language teacher provided he has completed teaching specialization (pursuant to educational standards of the UwB Centre of Lifelong Learning). A graduate is prepared to undertake research challenges and third cycle study (PhD).
